EA: When determining the feature set for The Rise of the Witch-King, one thing we really wanted to do was listen to the community and figure out exactly what they wanted in this expansion pack. What we found is that our multi-player community wanted new units to existing factions. We found that typically a player will pick a side, and they will learn that side and stick to it when they go online. And what they wanted were new toys to play with. So we scoured the boards, read through the debates, and figured out what each side needs; in some cases to fill certain holes or weaknesses, and in other cases to enhance strengths and strategies, but all the while being very careful not to normalize the game. You still want to have each of the factions keep a unique approach and gameplay style.
The Battle For Middle Earth
The biggest change across the game in terms of new units for existing factions is that we created a brand new type of unit called the mini-hero horde. This unit is somewhere in between a hero and an elite unit, and it actually has the characteristics of both. It's a horde, so it has multiple units, but they also have special powers like heroes do. For example at level two they get a unique ability depending on what unit they are, and at level seven they get a very powerful ability to use. They also heal when not in combat like heroes do.

The mini-hero hordes are built from the regular structures that exist in the Battle for Middle-Earth II, but at the higher levels. so they are really sort of late game units.
Now lets take a look at the units, heroes, and mini-hero hordes that have been added to the existing factions from The Battle for Middle-Earth II, for our expansion pack, The Rise of the Witch-King.
Men of the West
Knights of Dol Amroth
The skilled and loyal Knights of Dol Amroth are a fearsome foe to behold on the battlefield, and they are the new 'hero-horde' Of the Men of the West. You can only train the Knights of Dol Amroth at a Level 3 Stable. As the elite cavalry of the Men of the West, the Knights of Dol Amroth are best used when combined with the Rohirrim riders and Theoden. When the Knights reach high enough level they get a glorious charge that works very similar to Theodens glorious charge, so when combined, you can imagine how unstoppable of a cavalry force this becomes for the Men of the West.
Rohan Spearmen
Back from The Battle for Middle-earth 1, we felt the Men of the West were in need of a quick anti-cavalry unit to avoid an early game rush, thus the Rohan Spearmen make their valiant return in The Rise of the Witch-king. You can build these stout pikemen of Rohan in the Men of the West Barracks.
Dwarves
Dwarven Zealots
The new hero-horde for the Dwarves, the mighty Dwarven Zealot is immune to fear. In formation, they can increase both their attack damage and speed. The Dwarven Zealots have a brutal berserker rage power when they attain level 7, so be sure to keep them safe as you level them up to really utilize them in the late-game. You can only train the Dwarven Zealots at a Level 3 Hall of Warriors.
Prince Brand (Prince of Dale)
This bold military captain from Dale can use the bow and sword with equal skill. He is a new hero for the Dwarves and the only non-dwarf hero at that. Prince Brand is who you want leading your Men of Dale archers into battle.
Elves
Lindon Horse Archers
The elves were missing a lethal cavalry unit that could attack while on the move. With the addition of the nimble Lindon Horse Archers, they can now pick off an enemy at a distance astride a horse. This Lindon Horse Archers have the speed of an actual cavalry unit, but also the range and powerful bow attacks that the elves are known for. You can only train the Lindon Horse Archers at a Level 3 Green Pasture.
Noldor Warriors
The hero-horde for the Elves is none other than their most elite infantry unit, the Noldor Warriors. The sight of the elite Noldor Warrior strikes fear into the very hearts of his enemies. You can only train the Noldor Warriors at a Level 3 Barracks.
